About Us
You only go through high school once. And it's at a time in your life when your mind is most fertile. We make it our mission to serve children individually so their aspirations can one day become a reality. In today's competitive career landscape, it is no longer good enough to only graduate from high school. We deliver an education that prepares you with the life skills to pursue a higher education or a career in a technical field.
Letter from the Principal:
Greetings Tech High Family:
I am honored to have this opportunity to greet you as the new Principal of Tech High School. This is a very exciting time for me, and I do hope that you are excited as well.
I will be focusing on four areas this year: Accountability, Achievement, Academics and Accessibility. By successfully executing these four areas, Tech High will be positioned to become one of the highest performing schools in the country.
First, ACCOUNTABILITY will be our priority. As your school principal I will inspect what I expect. There will be processes put into place that will improve teacher-student relationships, classroom instruction, school safety, academic enrichment and student programs and activities. Students will be responsible for participating in class appropriately, while teachers will be responsible for conducting relevant and exciting instruction. As parents, we will need your support to ensure that your child is studying, completing assignments and attending all enrichment opportunities as needed.
Second, you can count on high student ACHIEVEMENT. We have set the bar higher for the results on the Georgia High School Graduation Test, End of Course Tests, and attendance. My philosophy is simple, “Success is the only option,” and one of the most clear and basic means to measure our school success is by exceeding Annual Yearly Progress requirements.
Third, the ACADEMIC offerings at Tech High will be enhanced. To ensure that our students are prepared for the most rigorous colleges and technical careers, every student will be enrolled in honors classes immediately. Over the next two years we will move toward offering a full menu of Advanced Placement and Dual enrollment courses. These critical changes will give our students the necessary resources to enter and complete college successfully.
Fourth and final, you will have ACCESSIBILITY to our staff. I will be very visible in the hallways, classrooms and in the immediate community. Students will see me frequently, and they can expect that I will engage them about their educational experience. Healthy relationships are critical to our success; therefore it is my intention to ensure that we connect regularly. If you visit the school, I will make time to meet with you. If needed, I will also meet you at your home. Further, our instructors will reach out to you proactively and frequently to ensure that you are given the necessary information to help your child succeed.
I thank you in advance for giving me an opportunity to serve you and your children. Our staff will respect this wonderful opportunity by providing your children with nothing less than excellence in every way, because we all know that we only have one chance to get it right.
Soon you will receive a copy of our new uniform requirements, school creed, school values, class schedule and the date for our Barbecue Open House.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We are here to serve you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Graysen Walles
Principal
Our Mission:
The mission of Tech High School is to integrate high academic standards and technical training in order to improve student achievement and prepare students for success in higher education and the workforce. This innovative educational environment with a pervading culture of high expectations will focus on developing talent and knowledge in mathematics, science and technology. Around this central focus, Tech High School will provide a rigorous core curriculum and opportunities for hands-on technical training. The core philosophy of Tech High School is that all students can learn and that most can learn at high levels when consistently presented with high expectations.
Our Philosophy:
Tech High School, established in 2004, is a public charter high school located in Atlanta. Tech High is designed for young men and women who are serious about their future. To ensure these students succeed, we are committed to strong partnerships with our students, staff, parents, and the metropolitan Atlanta community.
We believe that small class sizes, relevant hands-on projects, a rigorous curriculum, the utilization of technology and individualized support will help our students achieve academic success and provide them with a strong system of accountability, high expectations, and discipline.
Tech High School strives to graduate young men and
women who:
· develop a strong appreciation for academic excellence
· learn to think critically and creatively
· accept a sense of personal accountability and community responsibility
· utilize technology in a thoughtful and responsible manor
· embrace and value being life-long learners
· achieve a sense of emotional and physical well-being
· respect cultural differences and celebrate our common humanity
Location:
Tech High is centrally located in the historic Reynoldstown neighborhood of Atlanta. Our building is a renovated, turn-of-the-century middle school. Because it was designed and previously used as place of learning, the building offers lockers, a cafeteria, and spacious hallways and classrooms for our faculty and students.
