Georgia Graduation Test

Greetings Tech High Family:

Beginning on November 15, 2010, we will be moving into phase I of our Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) preparation for our first time test takers, as well as seniors who still need to pass certain sections of the Georgia High School Graduation Test.

The GHSGT is a state required test that all high school students must take and pass before they are permitted to graduate from high school.  This test is typically administered during the students 11th grade year.  Students are assessed in the areas of Social Studies, Math, Science, English Language Arts and Writing.  All five assessments must be passed before students are granted a Georgia High School diploma.

We are asking that you work with us to ensure that your students utilize the resources that the teachers provide for them to effectively prepare for this assessment.  If your child has been identified as a GHSGT taker, please engage them each day about their progress.  You can also view their progress at www.studyisland.com.  Each student has a unique username and password.

As a school, this assessment is very important as it will impact our AYP status.  This is similar to a report card for our school.  AYP is part of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Laws that mandate every student should be proficient in the areas of math, reading and writing.  We want to ensure that we are not only meeting the minimal standards with respect to NCLB, but also exceeding the annual standards set by the state.

The GHSGT plan will be addressed at the PTSA meeting which is scheduled to take place on Thursday November 11, 2010 at 6:30 pm.  The meeting will take place in the cafeteria or gym. If you are the parent of an 11th grader, please try your best to be present for this meeting.

As a team we can make this happen if we work hard, smart and consistently.  I look forward to reporting to each of you the success of our students toward the end of our school year.

Tech High family, we need you in a big way now.  Please support us in this effort as it is a win-win for us all.

Sincerely,

Graysen Walles, Ed.D.
Principal
